Cranleigh seeks to appoint, for January 2021, a strong honours graduate to teach Biology up to A level as maternity cover. This post would suit either someone who is looking to start a career in the subject, or someone who already has some experience in the profession. The successful candidate will teach a variety of classes in a lively and successful Department and will take full part in the life of this busy and friendly boarding school.

Cranleigh is a leading fully co-educational independent boarding and day Senior School consisting of around 690 girls and boys of 13 – 18 years of age. There is also a Preparatory School on the opposite side of the road which has around 343 girls and boys

We are looking for an energetic character who can effectively communicate their enthusiasm for Biology with humour, patience and skill. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of and enthusiasm for, the subject and is likely to hold a good honours degree in Biology (or closely related subject). She/he will be self-motivated and will relish the challenge presented by being part of a highly successful Department. A commitment to pupils, the Department and the wider life of the School, plus a firm grasp of curricular developments are important, as are empathy, organisation, collegiality, a sense of humour and the ability to sustain and enhance the Department’s delivery of Biology.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, innovative and a good team-player.

In addition she/he will be expected to get involved in all aspects of this busy boarding school, including acting as a tutor to a group of students within a House and some delivery of the School’s PSHEE programme. This would normally include one evening duty per week. All teachers are expected to contribute to the School’s co-curricular programme.

The appointment is from January 2021, for two terms in the first instance, with the potential for this to be extended.
